South Mountain Park Quest - 03 Aug 2013
We started our quest with hiking part of the "Appalachian Trail". The "Appalachian National Scenic Trail", generally known as the "Appalachian Trail" or simply the A.T., is a marked hiking trail in the eastern United States extending between "Springer Mountain in Georgia" and "Mount Katahdin in Maine". The precise length of the trail changes over time as trails are modified or added. The total length is approximately 2,200 miles.
From the very beginning as your first coming off of the paved road "Weaverton" you start with a steep incline of a hill onto the trail as your heading towards the next 75 feet that brings you in front of the trail bulletin board. The degree of difficulty doing this trail is definitely no joke as there are lots of steep "switchbacks" with plenty of good size slippery rocks spreadout and some in groups along the way. The kids of course were just in their glory with leading the way from the front with going up and back down the mountain, with a healthy dose of rain on the way back. Talk about getting your cardio workout for the day! The it was off to the "Stone Mountain Creamery" to enjoy some refreshing ice cream and have our Park Quest Passport stamped! Enjoy!
